Live update Kolkata doctor rape-murder case highlights:-

Protests get more intense; doctors want a law protecting health professionals and justice for the victim.

Massive protests broke out across West Bengal's medical campuses on August 16 when West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee led a rally calling for the death sentence for the primary accused in the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata's R.G. Kar Medical College.

The Union Health Minister has agreed to the demands of the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA), which called off its strike over the purported rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.

The doctors at the Indira Gandhi Hospital, the AIIMS, which is run by the central government, and other associations of resident doctors, such as the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA), declared on Tuesday that they would not stop protesting until a federal law is put into place to stop attacks on medical personnel and a workable solution is discovered.
